Where should I install the sauna/ lodge and what kind of surface does it require?
The sauna must be installed on a flat, load-bearing surface (bearing capacity 500kg/m2, tolerance +-2mm) and ensure that the drainage from the floor works as planned. The fit is also important for the operation of the door.
Examples of the platform:
Compacted, rust-free gravel bed
Concrete slab on a compacted gravel bed
Concrete, ingot, or steel pillars on a compacted gravel bed (at least 4 in the corners)
Which temperature will the sauna reach in one hour?
With electric stove the sauna heats to 70-75 celsius in one hour.
With wood heated stove the sauna heats to 80 celcius in one hour.
What permits does the sauna/lodge require?
Contact your local building authority to find out the permit matters in your own area.
How should I maintain the sauna?
• The water ceiling must be inspected regularly at least once a year and dirt and impurities must be removed
• Windows and doors should be cleaned regularly
• Ventilation and drying of the interior must be taken care of after use
• The platforms and the floor should be dried from water with a spatula or something similar after each use
• It is recommended to use seat covers
• The inner surfaces should be cleaned regularly and the condition of the silicones should be checked. Silicones must be renewed at least every 2 years
• The exterior surfaces of the sauna are recommended to be re-treated according to Teknos' instructions with a water-based cleaning agent https://www.teknos.com/fi-FI/tuotteet/woodex-aqua-classic/
when the surface looks worn and the treatment agent comes off when brushing the surface, e.g. with a root brush. Surfaces exposed to the sun wear out faster than shaded surfaces and the surface lives longer. Before processing, loose matter, dirt and dust are removed from the surface with a steel or root brush. After this, it is recommended to wash before re-treatment. Surfaces can be service painted with Teknos water- and solvent-thinned sealants, as well as cover protectors and house paints.
• The inner surfaces are recommended to be treated again in accordance with Tikkurila's instructions (below) when the surface has worn so that the water-repellent property has worn off and the surface begins to absorb moisture. Before the maintenance treatment, it is recommended to wash / sand the old substance so that the substance can be absorbed into the treated wood.
